Samadhi and daily life. Samadhi e vita quotidiana

Samadhi  can be best developed in daily life. When you perform a dance on stage, you are with your dance, you do not look around at the guests or whether they clap or not. You dance because you like to dance, not because you judge your dance or want to have it judged by others. You are only concentrated, completely present in your dance. There is no gap there, your mind is dancing with your body. That is the samadhi of zazen. When you work, you are completely with that work, not thinking about anything extraneous, that is how to do the best kind of work because it comes forth from samadhi. Your zazen has to be alive in your daily actions. When we can live our samadhi in our daily life, then we feel complete. To keep working on this creatively is the samadhi of zazen.

My question is about proper breathing. I meditate for many years and never really thought about it. Since I practice Zazen in your lineage I have the feeling that my breathing is completely wrong. I can not breathe in the abdomen. It only goes to the diaphragm. Then seems to be closing. Can you give me advice? “

We cannot practice just by habit since it does not have any meaning. We live with a constantly fresh mind. Let go of the tension in your shoulders. Become like an empty chimney. Because you try to create some kind of breathing, your body rejects it. We are alive and do not need to learn how to breathe. We sit zazen in order to let go of our obstructions. That is the only reason we sit. We sit in order to forget the heaviness of our body. We sit in order to even forget the breathing. We sit in order to also let go all ideas about ourself. As soon as we try to create anything, it becomes an obstructions. When you can forget your body, you are physically healthy as well.  When you can forget your breathing as well, your breathing is healthy and centered. When you can let go of the ideas of yourself, then your mind is healthy as well. We do not practice in order to become sick.

Zazen is all about our life in the world

"Zazen is all about our life in the world. True Zazen is when we are able to be in the world giving service and life and liberation to all beings; without that there is no point in doing Zazen. If we think that Zazen is just something that happens on the cushion in the Zendo, that is a big and frequent mistake. To be able to ongoingly live in the Mind of Samadhi, 24 hours a day, pouring it into everything we do, every hand motion, every foot-fall, we awaken to the deep true mind of Prajna where this very place is indeed the Land of Lotuses, and this very body is the body of the Buddha".
